Woomera Breakout Raises Ire

THE recent breakout at Woomera no doubt means a rekindling of the Tampa furore. Fresh opportunity will be given for the ``bleeding hearts" in our midst to put it all down to the ``heartlessness" of the Howard Government.

However, the wide awake thinkers, (fortunately the majority), will note that the infamous strands of ``razor wire" proved no deterrent when detainees walked unhindered into the arms of waiting troublemakers.

We still have the inference in the media that the Australian Government is alone in its hardline policy towards illegal immigrants, but the claim is nothing but humbug. Without a visa and passport, entry to any foreign country just does not happen - and there are ``heavies" on hand to make sure there is full compliance with the rules of entry.

What is more, the do-gooders espousing ``international concerns for asylum seekers" rarely put up any ideas for solutions to the root cause of the exodus, which, according to UN estimates, numbers many millions.

An Aussie ``fair go" by all means, but wading ashore willy nilly does not add up to commonsense immigration, nor does it respect the sovereign rights of this country.
